Hard Skin started off as a parody Skinhead band by guys working at Indie labels but wound up becoming the most popular band in the genre, This is their most recent release so if you like it, buy it, just a friendly suggestion, yeah?

I found this for £1 at the Notting Hill Music Exchange last weekend. Dead Inside were around in the early 2000's and one of the many, many, many bands of "Bloody" Kev Greenham. I was aware of them when they were around but it was at the time when I was just getting into heavy music but not cool enough to know about underground bands yet, in fact my only introduction to them was Kev doing guest vocals on one song on Raging Speedhorn's first album, another band Kev would later join when Frank left co-vocalist position due to commitments of becoming a father. Considering most of the other bands Kev has been in I expected this to be Crust but the guitar work and the introspective nature of the lyrics remind me more of mid 80's DC Hardcore like Swiz.

Normally I'm against 80's Hardcore bands reforming and putting out new material, but the new material that Systematic Death have been producing is just as raging as anything they did back in the day.

Blackened Crust from Colchester featuring members of Meadows and Isolation Tank. There was a CD version of this but it's sold out, the tape version has extended outros on both tracks.
Friday, 21 November 2014
International Powerviolence compilation (although there is some straight up Grindcore and Crossover Thrash snuck on here) featuring (mostly) new tracks from: Controlled Existence, Gets Worse, Black Hole Of Calcutta, Mangle, Prügelknabe, The Afternoon Gentlemen, Vile Intent and The Shining. It comes with an 84 page zine, which I'm not going to scan, you want to read it, buy your own copy. This is actually volume 1, volume 2 is already out, I'll pick that up next time I see it in a distro and make a rip off it too (EDIT: someone beat me to it).
Friday, 14 November 2014
Sickening, old school style Death Metal (no blast beats here) from Copenhagen, Denmark. These are the rough mixes for the two songs they donated to the Kill Town Deathfest Funeral compilation.
Saturday, 1 November 2014
Old guys from St. Louis doing Hardcore right, this makes me think of an alternative reality where DYS broke Edge and kept thrashing like they did on Brotherhood instead of staying sober and making that embarrassing Cock Rock album they actually made.
Saturday, 25 October 2014
Gets Worse: Hands down, the purest sounding Powerviolence band active in the UK right now. Members also play in The Afternoon Gentlemen and Shoot The Bastard.
Fissure: Bilingual PV from Orange County.
Friday, 10 October 2014
Crust Punk from Besancon, France with an odd obsession with using puns for song titles. The songs on this tape will later appear on a split 12" with Unrest, I'm guessing that it's not the band on Teen Beat though.

So we haven't heard from the UK most hated band in a while. There's been a few line up changes what with people leaving or being asked to leave, they're on this self destructive Gehenna/GG Allin trip where they do whatever and don't care who gets offended which has earned them getting barred from certain venues and just generally scorned by the PC Punk scene. In the meantime Faz and Aaron have been doing Ewige Schlangenkraft, a Lo Fi Black Metal side project ( you can find there releases here along with other bands that sprung from the Cthulhu Youth family tree). This sounds like demo material for the long delayed LP on Church Of Fuck, the title refers to a thread on the Collective Zine forum where a bunch of people accused them of misogynist because one of the people Aaron shoved over at a show in Ashford happened to be a girl (Aaron makes a habit of throwing people on the floor at their shows, it's just his thing), from my own experience it does seem like some of the people who post there seem to act like they're the vanguard for the UK Punk scene, that having said I do go on there myself from time to time to see if there are any decent DIY shows coming up.

Mob Rules started off as a Powerviolence band but when they got round to doing their first LP, The Donor (which was also the title of their first EP, just to fuck with you) they went in more of a Mystery Man Hardcore/Noise Rock direction similar to White Guilt. Their new album continues in a later Black Flag/Bl'ast! vein. Buy it from Quality Control HQ.

I do occasionally get people contacting me to feature their band on this blog, if you send me a link I'll at least give your band a listen and if I like what you do I get round to posting it. That's what happened with this band.
Female fronted Thrashcore from Strasbourg, France. You can pre-order the physical tape with merch through the Bandcamp link below.

Members of Dublin's Crowd Control have kept busy since the break up with a varied family tree of bands covering different styles: Strong Boys (Queercore), Zom (Death Metal), The #1s (Power Pop), Fuck Mountain (Indie) and this band, Disguise, old school Japanese style D-Beat in the vein of Disclose, Crow, Confuse, etc. You can buy it here.

New collection of covers from various past recording sessions touching on artist as diverse as: Laura Branigan, Neanderthal, Grief, Pink Floyd, Celtic Frost, Crossed Out, Styx, Duran Duran and of course John Williams, they reference Star Wars on every fucking thing they do.

D.I.Y. Hardcore from Toronto probably most famous for saying something bad about Fucked Up while they were recording, eh? After word got back to the band of many beefs (no really, Fucked Up has deliberately tried to start feuds with as many bands as they could (Billy Talent, Protest The Hero, Hard Skin, Turbonegro, etc.)) they took the music from one of Terminal States songs and recorded a diss track over it. After the shame of getting called out by Fucked Up, Terminal State disbanded. Some members started a new band called Reprobates who as far as I'm aware only recorded a demo and a 7" then broke up.

Neocrust from Charm City, being the huge Wire fanboy that I am I was excited to hear they sampled Tommy Carcetti's speech from the last episode of season three, I can never remember the name of that actor, the Irish guy from Queer As Folk, the guy pretending to shoot and throw Bane's men out of a plane in The Dark Knight Rises? I've heard he was on Game Of Thrones too but I refuse to watch it for the same reason why I didn't watch the Lord Of The Rings films, I just don't care for fantasy, I don't care if it does have tits in it, I'm a big boy now, I can find my own porn, whatever, I'm just rambling now 'cause I really don't know much about this band.

Female fronted Powerviolence from Fresno, California. I could never tell if they really were Straight Edge or the name was just troll bait, there's a picture of the singer Meg with x'ed up hands holding a hash pipe with a lighter up to her mouth.

Two great DIY bands from Austin, Texas.
Vaaska: Spanish language Hardcore who share members with Criaturas.
The Impalers: D-Beat fronted by a guy who also plays in Hatred Surge and Mammoth Grinder.
Here's some bonus Vaaska, they recently re-issued their self titled and Ruido Hasta La Muerte EPs as one 12" (similar to what Limp Wrist did with the Want Us Dead and their most recent self titled EP). I couldn't find a rip of the self titled EP so I made one myself.
Friday, 14 March 2014
Featuring that one guy who plays drums in every Grind/PV/Thrashcore band based in Washington, DC right now. The record has a rather fetching splatter pattern and a surprising Wire cover.

Last Sunday I went to a show and basically picked up an armload of records from the SuperFi Records Distro which is run by Kunal from Crusty Melvins worshipers Art Of Burning Water (awesome label and band, both well deserving of your support). Four of the records I picked up I couldn't find rips of so I made my own and I'll be putting them up over the next few Saturday's this month.
First up, Backslider, two man Philadelphia Powerviolence crew with Psych/Stoner breakdowns.

Sold out limited to 100 copies on Vedavu Records, two interlaced tracks on the a-side meaning you have to place the needle on a certain part of the outer groove to play each song. but that isn't the weirdest thing about this record, there is a b-side of just complete silence, maybe it's because the band is on the Occult Hardcore bandwagon and they want you to meditate while listening to spooky nothingness or someone at the pressing plant fucked up and that's why there is only 100 of these.
Friday, 17 January 2014
So last year Cthulhu Youth announced they'd got back together and fuck all happened, then just after Christmas Prison Tatt Records released this new Sesso Violento without any prior warning. 8 tracks, no song titles, because they kvlt and mysterious like that, this is limited to 100 copies, came came hand labeled 41/100 so if you want one you'd better get on that soon.
Friday, 3 January 2014
CoH: Theologian Powerviolence from Toronto featuring ex-members of The Endless Blockade and Shank.
RV: Raw Black Metal from Vancouver.
Feast Of Tentacles put this out the same time as South Kent Neocrusties Harrowed's debut album, it comes with a download code so I won't put it up here. Buy it you cheap fuckers! Also I'm starting a new job soon so I'll be doing new posts every other Saturday instead of Friday mornings from now on.
